Britain’s Top 6 Favourite Flowers

Today marks the beginning of National Gardening Week so we thought we would kick it off by researching the nation’s favourite flowers as voted by the public and a fact about each of them.

1. Roses

Violets are blue,
The Rose is the nation’s Favourite,
How about you?

Unsurprising really but the Rose is the favourite flower among the British.

2. Lilies

Despite the connection between Tiger Lilies and their sweet scent most varieties of Lily are actually Odourless

3. Tulip

Tulip

There are over 3000 varieties of Tulip.

4. Daffodil

Daffodil

They are one of the rare species of plants that are able to successfully grow through the snow.

5. Sunflower

Sunflower

Sunflowers are the only flower with the word flower in its name (even its scientific name – Helianthus – literally translates as “Sunflower”)

6. Orchid

Orchis

The genus Orchids comes from an Ancient Greek word meaning “testicle”; because of the shape of the bulbous roots.
